I'd really like to say that this is a great piece, and really captures a great moment. The way the light falls really brings out his facial features, and I get a good sense that this could be a real person. I love the fact that I'm looking into the trumpet, as well, cause it gives me a way to enter the piece and follow the figure up to his face. Good composition ^^

As critique, I think maybe cutting down on the amount of paper that shows through and pure black in the image, to allow the highlights and darkest parts to stand out more; the more midtones, the more the object/person is believed to be more than just flat (I tend to try and aim for seeing 6-7 midtones, then a pure black and a pure white). I've learned that too much white or too much black can start to take away from the image, and even highlights and shadows can have different tones to them.

Really? Hmmm.... More mid-tones... That's a very interesting suggestion. For my next piece I'll keep that in mind. I remember I was rather insecure when it came to varying the lights a darks, unless it was an extreme of course.

If my school didn't still have it I would go back and fiddle with it right now. XD
